Tommy has problems like most young people: an overbearing Dad and struggles as school. But he also has problems over and above his friends: 1. He has an overwhelming predilection for sweets.

2. His mother has disappeared mysteriously. 3. His Grandfather died mysteriously. 4. His Dad’s housekeeper, ‘The Dragon’ does not seem to be human! The story also takes place in a parallel world, Candyland. This is a kind of ‘therapeutic heaven’ for children who have died in tragic circumstances. As an introduction to Candyland we follow Craig Marriot, school colleague of Tommy’s, after his accidental death.

We see Craig rise into this fantastic, mystical environment. We see the discoveries he makes about life and death, good and evil. We touch on some deep issues in a sensitive, imaginative way.As Craig is being guided around Candyland, some distance away, sinister forces are amassing against it.

An evil has manifested itself in this childhood heaven- Queen Lilith and the Shadowlanders are the Darth Vader and imperial henchmen of our story.Back down on Earth Tommy finds an old book that belonged to his Grandfather.

It is entitled Candyland. Tommy notices that the forward pages of the book are blank. The story appears to reveal itself as he reads. He cannot simply skip to the end to see how it all ends. The book is a real-time account of what is happening in the present, both in Candyland and on Earth. Increasingly Tommy sees how he and his family figure in the story.Queen Lilith invades Candyland and takes over. Only two from the castle manage to escape, Princess Celia and her ‘wise man’, Gester. They travel through a portal between worlds to the attic of Tommy’s house.Tommy learns that he is in fact a member of a family that has a long history of defending Candyland.

He learns that it was the forces of evil–Queen Lilith and her ilk– who killed his Grandfather and kidnapped his mother. Tommy also learns that Queen Lilith is not content with simply invading Candyland. She hates children and plots to poison all of the children on earth. This will take place when her ‘Shadow Land Corporation’ on Earth hosts a global launch of a new, poisonous sweet, the Black Smilie. Her scheme can only be stopped with the anti-evil elixir, Elysium.

Ampoules of Elysium have been secretly lodged on Earth. All but one have been found and destroyed by the Shadowlanders. Tommy, the Princes and Gester must find the Elysium Ampoule and contact the scientist, Professor Nyman Steinman, to help them activate the Elysium. However, grey-suited Shadowlanders are on to them, trying to get the Ampoule and kill Tommy. Our four heroes find themselves in a rush against time to prevent the mass poisoning of the world’s children. An extended chase sequence takes place. Our heroes must survive: being gassed in an underground bunker, a car chase, a helicopter crash, being stabbed with a poisoned pen and falling Egyptian statues in the British Museum.

All this builds to the climax in the Museum where our heroes must ward off their pursuers while trying to establish a cosmic alignment that will activate the Elysium. We see the start of the global giveaway of the poisoned sweets. Children and adults begin to turn grey and flop to the ground. Just in time, our heroes manage to complete their task. An energy ray of sorts spreads all over the world and restores the fallen back to life.Tommy wakes up in hospital, after having spent three days unconscious.

Nobody suspects his significant role in saving the world’s children. Nobody knows just how much he has been through. And nobody knows just how important Tommy is in the cosmic scheme of things.
